About Sophia
Hi! I’m a second-year Economics and Philosophy student at Durham University with three years of experience tutoring maths to students of all ages up to GCSE.
I’ve always enjoyed maths, but what I love most about tutoring is seeing students grow in confidence and realise they’re capable of far more than they thought. I know that maths can feel intimidating, so I’m patient, approachable and encouraging, creating a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes.

Every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to suit each individual’s needs, pace and goals. I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and growing in confidence.
Rather than simply teaching students how to answer exam questions, I focus on building strong mathematical foundations and developing genuine understanding through the right level of guidance and scaffolding. Whether a student is looking to improve their confidence, catch up or work towards their target grade, my lessons are personalised to help them achieve their full potential.
