My language philosophy is based on real research that states that it is much, much harder to learn a language academically, in other words using textbooks and vocabulary drills. Our brains simply aren't wired that way. The fact is: language learning happens by accident. You learn a language most when you're having fun. It's scientifically proven that extensive reading (reading for fun) and other forms of comprehensible input is the #1 way we learn a language. All that is to say that FUN is a major factor. So, my teaching approach utilizes high-energy, laughter, and activities that make you think in different ways to create the connections in your brain you need to do more than translate your target language back to your native language.
I began teaching in college, giving lessons to groups of students from all over the place: the US, Saudi Arabia, China, Korea. By speaking to them, I gained a fascination with communication, and since I've gained a passion for teaching English. Since graduating I've gone on to get my TEFL and teach my foreign friends new and interesting ways to communicate in English.
One of the brightest and most talented people I've known for years, whom I can vouch for as an extremely effective and well-rounded teacher. They served as president of the Video Game Development Club at our university and regularly gave very informative presentations and tutorials on the game development process, helping many--myself included--both learn and cultivate a true passion for making games. They're very skilled in breaking down complex subject materials and explaining each individual component in a way that's easy to understand. Their teaching style is very personable and really makes you love what you are learning. I strongly recommend them as a teacher!
Evelyn is a fantastic teacher for the world of coding and video game development. I've known her for roughly 4 years, ever since she was the president of the South Alabama Video Game Development Club, probably even before that. She's very hands on with her lessons, as expected for game development, and she's very straightforward with her teaching. I highly recommend her.
Evelyn has been very patient with me, especially with the *hundreds* of questions I've asked her and has been such a great teacher. She is very clear with her explanations and makes it even seem less intimidating and super fun! (which if you've ever seen aftereffects, you'll know how scary it seems)
10/10 definitely going to her again if I need more help ️
Evelyn was kind enough to accommodate a last minute request, and she was very knowledgeable and patient. She really saved my day!
