About Roberta

Hello, Ciao, Hola!

My name is Roberta. I am a dynamic and engaging tutor who is up-to-date with the latest, most effective approaches to learning such as experience and problem-based learning, flipped classroom approaches and interactive and collaborative learning, which I include in the design of all my learning initiatives (without forgetting textbooks and assessment criteria! :)). If you choose me to help you with your learning requirements, I will make sure that you don't only succeed but enjoy the learning process!

I am originally from Italy but I moved to the UK over 10 years ago to study English, Spanish and business at Cardiff University. I attained an undergraduate degree in Linguistics and Language mediation from the University of Milan (First Class) in 2011 and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Cardiff University (Distinction) in 2013.
During my time at University, I was a language tutor for students of Italian (first and second year) at Cardiff University. I assisted the Italian professor with conversation tasks, marking essays, grammar papers and Italian clubs. This has taught me effective techniques to teach Italian as a foreign language that go beyond the simple textbook approach! Additionally, I also privately tutored several kids between the age of 10 and 18 and supported them with Italian, English and Spanish GSCEs and A-Levels. Some of these children also included kids with special needs, such as dyslexia and autism.

Prior to my time at University, I attained A-levels in English, Italian and Spanish and I spent every summer semester living in English or Spanish-speaking countries such as Mexico, California and Spain! Having been a language student myself, I know what the best way to learn and teach languages is and I can pass this on to you in my tutoring approach.

After graduating, I have worked in business all my career first as a consultant and then as a coach, trainer and mentor to many big international organisations in a variety of sectors, helping adults to learn the skills they need to succeed.

Roberta is a tremendously supportive tutor who "gets" the process of learning language. She is good at building ability while pushing you to feel more confident with what you have.

Her focus on natural conversation rather than just working through phrases or a textbook was a breath of fresh air from what I had experienced both independently through apps, and evening classes at a nearby university.

Sessions were well planned, tailored and made me feel like I had progressed each time.
