About Candice

I am an OCT currently teaching with the TDSB, and certified to teach grades K - 10 in mathematics, English, special education, music (woodwinds, brass, ukulele, voice), and science/social studies. I am also able to teach core French from grades 4 - 8, biology from grades 11 - 12, and psychology from grades 11 - university/college. I am a former editor for a book publisher, and excel in teaching essay writing skills.

I am an enthusiastic educator who believes everyone has the ability and right to learn and engage in education. Fundamental skills should be taught in languages and mathematics in order for students to succeed in higher grades. Learning is not boring, though! Learning through games and fun activities are how I prefer to practice teaching, as the brain is more susceptible to learning and retaining information when stress hormones are not present. I have an open mind, and consider myself a very inclusive, equitable, and progressive educator. I have a special interest in teaching students with special needs (mild to severe), and have been a MART, so I understand and can assist with navigating the system and attaining supports for students and parents. I am currently an elementary teacher with the TDSB, where I teach all grade K - 8, including students with severe special needs.

I have experience teaching at private tutoring establishments, in-home tutoring, and teaching in a classroom setting; which have all resulted in students gaining confidence, enjoying the subject, and boosting grades and knowledge!

About the lesson

Everyone has the ability to learn and excel, we just need to find and establish a plan that works for each individual. I am a heavy believer in tapping into different learning styles and using those techniques in my teaching. Individual tutoring can help develop confidence with concepts, that will transfer to success in the classroom and boost grades!
