About Elizabeth
I have been tutoring and teaching for over 20 years, including writing (I am a published author), mathematics, science, coding, and software. I have extensive experience teaching both children (grades 2-8) and adults. I create lesson plans for groups or individuals; and design my own games, activities, problem sets, and assessments. I have extensive experience assisting students with ADHD, Autism, SPD, and emotional disturbance (anxiety, depression, etc.) and am qualified in the methods and approaches required to truly help these students. I am a single mother of two who lives in the DC area, and I studied Psychology at JMU and Neuroscience at Georgetown University. I love astronomy, ballet, and sewing!

I work with both children and adults, and customize each session and lesson plan for students based on their developing needs, after observing them in the first session. I teach using multi-sensory methods (visual, auditory, spatial) to highly reinforce learning. I am also careful to train students in self-confidence, test-taking, organization, and planning, as these are major factors in math performance! I modify or switch approach/activities frequently in order to maintain focus and student engagement. All of these methods are shown to reinforce learning. The most important thing I do is connect with my students and get to know their interests, strengths, and areas of improvement. This allows me to finely tune sessions to reach their maximum efficiency, as well as making it enjoyable! My favorite method is to teach using games-- including video games. An engaged student is a learning student!
