About Louis-Dominique
Hello! I’m Louis.
Thank you for reading my ad.
I can help you understand difficult concepts, provide tips to double-check your work, build self-confidence, develop study skills, catch up on your homework, or prepare you for your exams. My approach is patient and encouraging, and tailored to your needs.
Do not let my background mislead you. Tutoring is now my principal occupation. It is not a “side hustle.” When I’m not in the midst of tutoring, I’m constantly thinking about how to communicate my knowledge, and I’m constantly expanding the realm of topics that I tutor in.
I have taught at the university level at the University of Virginia, and at Dickinson College. Prior to teaching, I was a note taker for some of my visually impaired colleagues. I’ve been tutoring formally for about three years now, mostly mathematics.
My background is rather eclectic. I was born in Montréal, Canada, and lived there for the first 25 years of my life. I acquired a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal while I was living there. Then I moved to the USA. Here, I acquired a master's in South Asia Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and then a Ph.D. in Religion from the University of Virginia. I’ve also studied for a time in India, and Taiwan.

If the student is taking a class, they can bring specific problems to my attention. We can then work on these problems, and I can explain the theory as needed. I have enough experience to teach everything remotely, including graphing.
If the student wants me to give the class, I’ve done this before, and I know about free textbooks that I’ve used in the past and that we can use again.
I know how to tutor online. I have acquired the tools and the expertise to do it.
I’m looking forward to working with you. If you have questions, please ask.
