About Gareth
I'm an established engineer with a PhD in radar and signals processing and a bachelors degree in avionics. I have peer reviewed papers published in respected journals and have presented my work in several international conferences.
I have worked in the aerospace industry for several years and enjoyed tutoring and mentoring maths whilst pursuing my PhD and bachelors degrees.
I tutor because I think its fun! Teaching is a rewarding profession and I enjoy challenging my students and helping them succeed in their academic goals.

First lesson is FREE. Tell me the topic your child is struggling with most and I’ll prepare a tailored lesson to turn that weakness into a strength!
I take a two-pronged approach to tuition:
1. I teach students how to better learn and revise maths to enable them to become more ‘maths independent’.
2. I train students how to better approach exam questions and ultimately how to smash their exams!
I teach secondary school students from year 7 - 11, covering GCSE maths and science. Maths is the main subject taught, but I love tutoring science (either double award or separate) purely because its so interesting and fun to teach!
ABOUT ME:
I have a PhD in radar and signals processing and have several years experience within the aerospace industry, working with avionics, radars and artificial intelligence. I maths mentored during my bachelors degree in avionics and tutored whilst pursuing my PhD. I tutor because I love to teach!
MY MAIN ADVICE:
You can’t revise maths like you do for other subjects. You learn maths by DOING maths, not by watching or reading it.
Reading proofs or explanations (like in the CGP books) is helpful. But they need to be read alongside questions/problems you’re currently working on to get the best results.
Practice, practice and practice some more! Try a question first, get stuck, refer back to the theory (or your tutor) and then continue.
I’m a firm believer in empowering students to become better in their approach to learning maths as well as how to best tackle their maths exams. Combining the two approaches yields

I’ve known Gareth for the better part of 25 years or so - from primary school right through our further education. I can certainly vouch for his calm, warm and professional demeanour, as well as his ability to explain complex themes concisely and clearly. His passion for education and enthusiasm and patience when teaching makes him an excellent tutor. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Gareth is extremely knowledgeable and patient. He uses a lot of his own materials to ensure learning can continue in the background between lessons which is fantastic! A great tutor.
