About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is centered around clarity, patience, and building confidence. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable steps, making sure students not only get the right answer but also understand why it works. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs—whether that means going slower, using visual examples, or connecting concepts to real-life situations. I also encourage students to think out loud so I can better understand their thought process and guide them effectively.

In a typical lesson, I start by reviewing any previous material or questions the student has, then introduce the topic for the session with a clear explanation and examples. After that, we work through practice problems together, gradually increasing difficulty. I make sure the student actively participates rather than just watching. Toward the end, I have them try problems independently to reinforce their understanding, and we finish by summarizing key takeaways and identifying areas to review next time.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to make students feel comfortable and supported while still challenging them to improve. I focus a lot on building confidence, especially for students who may feel anxious about subjects like math or statistics. I’m also very attentive to pacing—I don’t move on until the student truly understands. Additionally, I incorporate strategies like teaching the difference between similar concepts (e.g., permutations vs. combinations) in a clear, memorable way.

My lessons are best suited for students at the high school or early college level, particularly those taking introductory courses such as statistics (like STAT 1000Q), algebra, or related subjects. I work well with students who need help building foundational skills, preparing for exams, or gaining confidence in problem-solving. I also support students who may be struggling to keep up in class or who want extra practice to stay ahead.
