About Wesley
I worked as a STEM tutor at my community college where I majored in Engineering and Computer Science. This is also where I was awarded the Franklin Carver Memorial Award in Mathematics as recognition of the skills I have built, as well as my role as a tutor.

I am a math tutor who prioritizes intuitive understanding and mental construction of concepts over memorization. I regularly ask students to explain concepts back to me, which helps demonstrate understanding and allows me to correct misconceptions when they appear.
During sessions, we work through problems together. Outside of sessions, I encourage students to drill problems independently so they get many opportunities to struggle, fail, and refine weak points—math isn’t a spectator sport.
I primarily work with college and high school students. I also tutor younger students, provided they are comfortable using the tools we need to meet and communicate, mainly Zoom and email.
Lesson plans follow a general structure: we identify conceptual gaps, practice relevant problems during the session, and then I assign targeted follow-up problems designed to push exploration of the concept beyond our meeting. That said, I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Effective lesson plans are built around the student’s goals, schedule, and course expectations.
