About Ken
I studied Engineering Systems and Computing from the University of Guelph and during my studies, I found myself teaching my classmates on topics that they had difficulty with. It allowed me to further develop my own understanding of the material that I was learning at school and I even ended up developing a passion and a skill without knowing it.
After my studies, I started working as a Web-Developer for a Startup company in Waterloo but I quickly realized that I had passions elsewhere. This is when I re-discovered my interests in teaching and started private tutoring highschool and first and second year university students at UW and WLU in Chemistry, Physics and an array of different Math courses.
Currently, I have been private tutoring for 6 years and that has allowed me to gain a good level of understanding on the local school curriculum which I find to be very advantageous.
I also teach Robotics and Coding part-time to elementary and junior-high students (age ~6-14) at an After-school program.

Initially, I spend some time accessing an individual student's strengths and weaknesses to strategize the best methods to bridge any gaps that they may have in their understanding. I am an Engineer at heart so I always break down problem solving to the core fundamentals. This means pinpointing the core fundamentals that are lacking and making sure to develop strength in those areas.
I also heavily emphasize on teaching learning and test taking strategies. Most students lack an understanding in how to study at home and on their own time. I make sure to teach them the strategies that I used during my studies that are tried and tested. Learning how to take good notes and knowing how to use them is what differentiates the struggling students from the excellent ones.
