About Mark

I hold a PhD in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and graduated top of my class in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham. I am an accomplished engineer working in the fields of solid-state physics, materials and nuclear sciences, and mechanical and numerical modelling. My professional experience spans the UK, Europe, and the United States, where I have established myself as a specialist in my field. Outside of work, I continue to engage in scientific research and publications on topics of personal interest. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our dog, and I am passionate about animals, nature, sports, music, art, and aviation. I love teaching because I find genuine joy in seeing others learn, grow, and achieve their goals. I believe that developing curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning are among the most valuable skills young people can cultivate. Sharing knowledge and helping students approach problems from new perspectives is deeply rewarding to me. I see teaching not just as the transfer of information, but as an opportunity to inspire confidence, curiosity, and intellectual independence in others.

About the lesson

I am a patient and structured tutor who takes time to explain concepts clearly, using both visual and logical or mathematical reasoning to make ideas intuitive. My teaching style focuses on simplifying complex topics into smaller, digestible components, helping students build understanding gradually and confidently. I emphasise genuine comprehension over rote memorisation, while ensuring theoretical foundations are covered thoroughly where necessary. Typical lessons last between 1.0-1.5 hours, though sessions can be extended depending on the student’s needs, motivation, and learning goals. I am extremely diligent in preparing for classes, tailoring materials and examples to the individual student. I have experience providing private tutoring in my areas of expertise, as well as mentoring junior colleagues in my professional work. I am open to remote teaching but can also travel for in-person sessions when required. I work with students aged 7 to 18 (primary, secondary, and sixth-form levels), as well as undergraduate and postgraduate university students. In addition to subject tutoring, I provide specialist support for Oxford and Cambridge admissions, drawing on my experience as an Oxford graduate, interviewer, examiner, and tutor. Remote tutoring is generally preferred for students aged 10 and above. I am approachable, easy-going, and enjoy working with young people and children. Lessons can be conducted in English, Spanish, or Bulgarian, in all of which I am fluent. Teaching is my passion.
