About Neva
Hey there, I’m an engineering student at Virginia Tech, so I work with math every single day and know how it actually applies to the real world. Before I started tutoring on my own, I worked at two different tutoring centers helping elementary school kids. That experience really taught me how to take tricky math concepts and break them down into simple, fun steps that make sense to younger students.
When we work together, I bring the problem-solving skills of an engineer along with a lot of patience. My goal is to keep lessons organized but completely stress-free so students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Whether your child is working on basic elementary math or getting ready for advanced high school classes, I’m here to help build their confidence and keep communication clear every step of the way.

I help students transform from stressed test-takers into confident problem solvers. My approach builds a lasting foundation of mathematical intuition, not just short-term memorization.
Methods and Techniques:
- Visual to Abstract approach: use simple examples before generalizing them into formulas to increase familiarity
-"I Do, We Do, You Do": show the student how this form of question works, work through it together, build the student's confidence by working by themselves.
Typical 60 min lesson plan:
First 10 min: discuss previous session's homework and any specific areas of focus
Next 20 min: concept delivery for the next topic
Next 20 min: work on examples together with increasingly more student-led work through
Last 10 min: student works through examples independently and seeks help
I cultivate a judgment-free zone where mistakes are treated as valuable data, not failures. Every student gets a personalized pace and a digital dashboard with custom resources to make math accessible and stress-free.
Lessons are for elementary mathematics; middle schoolers working on ratios, percentages, and pre-algebra; high schoolers learning Algebra I/II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
