About Nick
I'm a 3rd year Queen's engineering student who has thorough experience with tutoring. I can provide help with highschool math, chemistry, physics, and university engineering courses. My method is to identify what prerequisite concepts a student is weak with, and develop a strong foundation so that new content is easy to understand.
I began highschool struggling at math, so I am one of the few tutors out there who really understands what it's like to struggle. My grade 9 EQAO math score was 68%, but I was blessed with some incredible math teachers thereafter. I began tutoring with a student in grade 10, and coached them throughout highschool to significant success (we saw a 35% increase in math grades over 2 years) through building confidence and a strong foundation before learning new concepts.
I have a passion for tutoring students; in grade 12 I partnered with my school to host open tutoring sessions at lunch for math, physics and chemistry(I literally gave up my lunch breaks just to help students in my grade). I continued this in university where I've spent hundreds of hours on whiteboards in front of my peers, walking through solutions and identifying learning gaps.

My teaching method is broken into two components.
I like to start with a question or concept that the student is struggling with. We work through the problem together and determine where the student gets stuck. From there, we develop the prerequisite skills needed to build confidence and a strong foundation.
Throughout this time we build a system together to tackle these problems. This system includes:
-Identifying keywords,
-Organizing information correctly,
-Building a general step by step system that you can apply to similar problems across the unit.
I believe in the use of colour and visualization tools to help students understand what's really going on in the big picture, instead of just learning the steps.
