I personalise my teaching method depending on the individual student. I prefer to begin a series of tutorials by outlining their strengths and weaknesses as well as what they study in detail so I can plan ahead; I then break tutorials up into a series of short activities to maintain focus and hone in on key skills. For instance, a tutorial for English Literature GCSE looking at Macbeth might contain an initial discussion of a theme, learning about key contexts relating to that theme, close analysis together of some key scenes and then returning to our initial thoughts. I like to see tutorials as a way students can benefit from the one on one relationship by developing ideas and skills together, rather than a strict teaching environment.
