About Dominic
I am a brazilian biotechnology technician and an undergraduate student in Biology, majoring in both research and teaching degrees (at PUC-Rio).
I'm fluent in English since I was a child, and have learned from my mother, who was an English teacher - she introduced me to many TV shows and kid's games websites in English, encouraging me to explore the subjects I was already interested in, but in English.
Since then, I have graduated in Advanced English at IBEU (Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos), taught tutoring and support classes in English and Biology for elementary school students, and worked with portuguese to english and english to portuguese translation.
I focus in providing assistance with pronunciation, writing, vocabulary and grammar, in addition to teaching the structure of the language to beginners and helping to practice conversation for students who are already fluent.

I teach mostly through popular entertainment and media (TV shows, games, music...), which is the method that helped me learn to speak fluently. The main point is to bring in the student's personal interests, like favorite games, movies or singers, and include them in classes through texts, quizzes and educational materials, that are tailored to each student's goals and needs.
That way, they can practice pronunciation and conversation through understanding the casual English used in films, music and most pop culture media, and spoken by native english-speakers, and still be interested in learning the language by looking to become more involved with subjects they enjoy.
