About Ian
I am English teacher currently working in a secondary school, working with 160 students. I have been a teacher for 15 years, teaching a broad range of students of differing abilities and backgrounds. Across this range I have prepared many students for university, including a number for Oxford and Cambridge and have experience of teaching at A Level as well as GCSE. Moreover, I am an examinations marker for the exam board AQA at GCSE, assessing their English Literature 2 paper. I received an excellent grading in the last summer series.
In terms of achievements, 98% of my students achieve their target grade and 75% achieve at least one grade higher than targeted. My A Level achievements are similar.
As I have taught for a number of years and possess plenty of experience, I am bale to teach a wide range of Literature texts and English Language concepts, simply and with clarity.

My teaching style is questioning led, teaching students how to think critically and use discussion or dialogue as a way gaining a deeper understanding and insight. Alongside this investigative approach to teaching - I'll often pivot the lesson around a key question we are seeking to answer or understand more thoroughly - I explicitly teach proven strategies that help students to perform well in examinations. In this aspect of my teaching, I use my knowledge as an examiner to help students frame their responses so they understand how to demonstrate they have the skills being assessed.
