About Michael

I began my professional career in the late 90’s. For me the opportunity to serve in this way is a “full circle” life event both professionally and personally. I started out as an academic advisor with the Cal State Stanislaus Student Support Services Trio program in 1992 and currently I work at San Jose State University as a Learning Specialist for student athletes. Throughout my 26 year career in higher education I have continually worked in the areas of Student Success and Educational Academic Support.

I have had vast experience working in and with diverse student groups, and acquired an understanding of group dynamics as it pertains to building community and cooperatives among ethnically diverse students, faculty and staff in a residential university environment successfully. In short I have been responsible for the simultaneous development and coordination of multiple academic and social integration support programs aimed at targeted populations such as underrepresented minority students, students in need of remediation, probation students, frosh, transfer, re-entry and continuing student populations. In short I assist students with succeeding academically!

About the lesson

My teaching style is fluid to match student needs.
Once we assess a student's assignments, their strengths and weaknesses we develop a learning success plan for the student. If the student simply needs assistance with a paper we assist, if they need skill development we map out a plan. What we do depends on client want. But I will not do the work for the student. I provide tools, guidance and support.
