I am an experienced teacher who is dedicated to helping all students succeed. My lessons are always engaging and allow students to demonstrate their own understanding of texts. Literature is nebulous. There often isn't one concrete answer. I allow students to come up with their own interpretations of text. The only rule is "prove it"; show evidence from the text that will allow me to accept the response.
I always begin with a question that defies logic. This starts the critical thinking process to begin.
My areas of expertise are in the following.:
Literary analysis of drama, fiction, and poetry. Development of essay form, including documented essay; instruction and practice in expository writing. Emphasis on clarity of central and support ideas, adequate development, logical organization, coherence, appropriate citing of primary and/or secondary sources, and grammatical and mechanical accuracy. Rhetorical modes: cause and effect, argument and persuasion, etc. Reading and evaluating research sources.
I have been an English instructor for 15 years. I have instructed students at high school and university levels. The majority of my students who attend my classes move on to the next level of learning and are successful in them.
