About Cinzia

I have been giving private lessons for over 25 years and I have taught a lot of high school and adult students, in individual lessons, face-to-face or online, and in classes. I have also held language courses in private schools and companies for staff and executives. I have also taught Business English at companies and online. I am a freelance translator of English and French.

About the lesson

I have been teaching adults and high school students for more than 25 years, working at home, in private schools and companies. I taught English online for 8 years, through a web based platform provided by a French company; my students were mostly executives from all over Europe. I have been a freelance professional translator for over 25 years and I mainly deal with texts relating to cultural heritage, art, tourism and gastronomy. My clients are translation agencies from all over the world but I also have a few local customers. I have a degree in translation and interpreting (English and French) and I have a second degree in Preservation of Cultural Heritage. I have a secondary school background in the humanities and also an American High School diploma after studying a year in the USA as part of a cultural exchange program. I have a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - Grade A, and my English is excellent both as concerns fluency and pronunciation. I speak standard English, with a slight American inflection in pronunciation and vocabulary. As concerns the English language, I can give lessons at all levels, including the highest ones (university, preparation for CPE and other tests, etc.). I can also give French and Latin classes but only for levels up to high school. My teaching methods are a mix of tradition and innovation with a focus on pronunciation as a necessary means for proper understanding of the language and communication. I find it crucial to work on grammar and at the advanced levels I teach it in a way as to make the student be aware of the general mechanisms of the English language, besides focusing on the single rule. I also believe that vocabulary and basic linguistic functions are equally essential, and that they must be taught in parallel with grammar for a true advancement in language learning. I also focus a lot on written and oral comprehension trying to give my students the tools to understand a text through structural analysis and logical thinking. I feel I have good empathy with students, I am always in for a good laugh or a joke when the situation allows but I'm also quite fussy and demanding. I also believe in the importance of assigning off-lesson tasks, so that students can work on what they have learned on their own, thus achieving a full understanding and mastery of the notions taught.
