About Laura
Having taught preschool through college students, both with special education needs as well as special gifts, I am well-versed in adapting to any student's situation. Teaching is a two-way street: I take what the student has to offer and offer something in return--and in this way we climb the ladder of skill development and efficacy. My background is in the arts as well--so I often use creative examples and exercises to come at a lesson from a non-traditional angle. This has been especially helpful given that one of my own children qualifies as gifted and the other has developmental delays; teaching them, in addition to those students at my schools and at the local college, has been a joyful challenge. In short, I relish the chance to teach students 1:1 with the goal of making a difference in their lives--and thereby allowing all of us to further contribute to the greater community.

I teach with the idea it is best to always assure, never assume: verify what is known, and build from there. Fun warm-ups prime the student for the lesson, which targets a particular skill, and wrap-up exercises to connect the skills with real life make learning interesting and effective.
