About Jonny
I’m a writer. I write books and plays. I also direct theatre. These jobs require me to really understand words and stories, as well as people. Clear communication is such an important skill - we all have moments in our life when we feel we have things to say. So, being able to read and write is an important skill that can help us to do this clearly, coherently. I’m also passionate about stories! My view is that reading work from others means that we can discover more about the world we live in.

Our sessions are led by your needs, but they usually focus on giving you the space to ask the specific questions and practice the skills that you don’t have time to work on in class. There are no silly questions. Students often have brilliant ideas of their own and I view these tutoring sessions as a way of getting these ideas out onto paper. This might mean that we work together to find solutions around structuring essays, find ways of writing within time limits and practice spelling and punctuation. I can also help you to understand and analyse texts (novels, poetry, plays etc) that you might be struggling with, finding a way for you to relate to the work.
I’m very happy to set tasks for you to complete and bring back to our sessions, or we can just work within the time frame of the sessions themselves - I understand that juggling school, hobbies and life is hard! This is also something that can change week by week depending on your situation. The tutoring isn’t simply ‘more work’, but here to help you achieve the best results you can with the work already asked of you.
