About Sydney
A little bit about me:
Hi! I'm Sydney and I'm a very keen Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology tutor. I'm currently a year 2 MBChB medical student at Anglia Ruskin University. I scored A*A*A at OCR Biology, Edexcel Mathematics and OCR Chemistry A levels, respectively. I sat my GCSE Mathematics and Core Science in year 10 (a year earlier than usual) and I scored A* and A in both. I have lots of experience achieving top grades and I'm determined to help you reach your full potential and will ensure you stop short of nothing but success :)
My first professional teaching experience started when I was 14, I began teaching both maths and English as an instructor at my local tuition centre whilst studying for my GCSEs. During my tutoring experience, many of my students went on to join prestigious London sixth-form colleges. I'm confident I can do the same for you, be it a sixth form or university you are targeting.
When teaching maths, one often falls into a very common trap... maths is not to be memorised but instead understood. The new specifications across most exam boards are now leaning towards presenting questions in a more comprehensive context. This causes many students who 'memorise' methods to slip up and miss out on easy marks. The key thing to being successful at maths is accepting that maths is simply a language; to learn it you must be determined to get the right answer, practice makes perfect. Maths is very special. It's not like other subjects like English because there is always a definite answer: you are either right or wrong. It's as simple as that. I am determined to teach and help you learn that maths isn't so bad once you understand it.
Chemistry and Biology were always two of my strongest and favourite subjects growing up. From my own experience studying both subjects, there is a special mindset you have to adopt to pass the exams. They may seem very daunting subjects at first but by the time you sit your exams, having gone through rigorous tuition with me, you will be confident you can score within the top percentiles.
I also offer 1-to-1 mentoring for aspiring medical students who want to get ahead of their peers in the applications which are extremely competitive. The first time I applied to medical school, I was given 4 interviews and 2 offers; I have experience with different types of interviews and personal statement requirements. I'd be happy to help with interview prep and the whole application process.

My teaching method depends on each student. From my previous experience, no two students are the same in terms of strengths and weaknesses. My teaching style targets areas of concern and involves tailoring a personal plan that ensures my students are fully equipped with the knowledge, practice and confidence to ace the exams.
I have more than 5 years of experience teaching children and preparing them for SATs, secondary school entrance exams and GCSE exams.
