About Derek
Hi! I am Derek, and I am an experienced educator, writer, and longtime communication specialist who loves helping learners find clarity, confidence, and their own voice in English. For nearly a decade, I have worked as a Standardized Patient in medical training, where empathy, precision, and active listening are essential. I bring that same patience and curiosity into every lesson.
I have taught both children and adults - including ESL beginners who benefit from gentle guidance, structured practice, and thoughtful written feedback. Because of my background in storytelling and creative work, I design lessons that feel engaging, imaginative, and tailored to each student's personality. Whether you want to improve pronunciation, strengthen grammar, or simply feel more comfortable expressing yourself, I'll meet you exactly where you are and help you grow at a pace that feels right.
If you're looking for a tutor who is encouraging, detail-oriented, and genuinely invested in your progress, I'd be happy to support your learning journey.
I look forward to working with you!

English
I offer guidance and instruction in reading and English-speaking skills. I go at your pace and what your needs are. I have material that I can use; however, if there is something in particular you are working on and need help with, then I am more than happy to offer assistance. My lessons are geared towards those who are, perhaps, learning English as a second language, as well as younger students who need help with reading and pronunciation. I am comfortable teaching everything from "See Jane Run" to Shakespeare! LOL
