About Carolina

After graduating from my BMus with First Class Honours, I am studying for a Master's in Performance at the Royal College of Music. I am a highly experienced performer and teacher, and have taught privately for over 6 years now, as well as at a school through the El Sistema project. I am also a tutor at the Merton Music Foundation.

I am a member of the Royal Opera House Mentorship as well as the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, and freelance regularly with London orchestras. While at the RCM I was awarded highly commended in their Contemporary Music Competition. I have won and been a finalist in several chamber and solo competitions such as the Edinburgh Quartet Apprentice Competition (finalist 2020). I also have played in many of the most reputable youth orchestras, frequently appearing as principal cellist; some of these include the Irish Chamber Orchestra Academy, the Berlin Opera Academy, projects at the Royal College of Music or the National Youth String Orchestra.

I have had the privilege of playing with musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, the Edinburgh Quartet, Thomas Zehetmair, Rachel Nicholls, as well as side-by-side and training schemes with members of the LSO, Philharmonia, BBCSO, RPO, Orquesta de RTVE, ONE, and appeared in world-renowned venues such as the Cadogan Hall, St. John's Smith Square, BOZAR, and the concert halls at Guildhall and the RCM, with future engagements this year including concerts at the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie.

About the lesson

I'm a very practical teacher, and highly adaptable to my students' needs and likes.
I believe the most important thing when learning to play an instrument is the sensibility, artistic taste and appreciation that come from it, as well as the sense of discipline and constant effort that comes from regular practice, and the self-awareness and need to listen and perceive oneself in order to continuously improve.

I believe in the Montessori idea that we learn best that which we are the more interested on, and as such try different, tailor-made approaches to each individual student's need. I have experience teaching individuals from ages 5-adults, as well as full class lessons, and knowledge of the Kodaly and Orff methods.

I am knowledgeable in the Suzuki, ABSRM, and Trinity syllabi, and happy to think outside the box and teach different repertoire, adequate to the student's needs.

I can teach in English and Spanish, and I am happy to work towards specific projects, such as orchestra auditions or ABSRM/Trinity exams, or to pursue lessons for self-improvement.
