I approach each and every tutoring session with enthusiasm for the topic and for teaching the topic to you! I try to be as easy to communicate with as possible and I make sure my classroom (virtual or physical) is a place where everyone can feel comfortable to ask as many questions as they need. I take the time to explain the subject in a way that makes sense to you- whether that be through historical anecdotes or creating likenesses to current events. If you tell me how you best learn, then I will be sure to teach in a way that makes sense to you. I believe everyone has the capability to learn and thoroughly understand history- it's just a matter of finding a way to make it accessible to you!
I am a recent graduate from Northwestern University with an MA in European History, with a specialty in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. I have been a history tutor since 2011 and am nationally certified through the College Reading & Learning Association (Level 3). I was also a Teaching Assistant at the University of Louisville where I taught a general survey course that spanned from Ancient History to approximately 1500 CE.
Cancellation policy: When at all possible, please notify me 12 hours in advance if you need to cancel a lesson. If you cancel with less than 5 hours notice, I charge half the cost of a lesson ($9) unless cancellation was due to a true emergency.
Travel: I have a car and am willing to commute up to 5 miles from Evanston free of charge. If you live further, I will still be more than happy to come to you, but I will charge an additional $1 per mile just to cover gas. If you are located close to a train stop, let me know and we can work out a lesser rate for travel.
