About Matthew
I have been learning and working with Mandarin ever since I was 13 years old, having studied it to Advanced Higher level before completing a BA in Chinese Studies at the University of Sheffield. I have since gained several years of experience teaching English in Chinese cities such as Beijing and Wuhan, from primary school level to college level (often being responsible for around 100+ students' English language education!). However, it is my desire to teach Chinese as a foreign language and spread my passion for it to others, which is why I am currently embarking on a PGDE at Moray House to teach it at secondary level.

I always make sure to teach and explain the concepts of Mandarin Chinese at a rate that challenges my students while letting them interact with it at a comfortable pace, whether it be for fresh-start learners or more advanced students. Chinese is an especially unique language, and I also wish to emphasise its intricacies and special qualities in my teaching, like its intonation and the meanings behind character structures.
