About Emily
Enthusiastic tutor of A-Level and GCSE, starting teacher training next September! Looking to create a calm and student centric teaching environment. Finding out what you struggle with and what you want to learn are my biggest priorities! I recently graduated from the University of Leicester with a English and History. Past experience in tutoring GCSE Maths and English in various schools around Leicestershire. Available to tutor A-Level English and History, and also GCSE English, Maths and History. Due to start a PGCE in Maths Education next September, so looking to gain even more experience in teaching!
While undertaking an English and History degree, I have gained a passion for teaching! I have developed academic skills which are applicable in many facets of life and believe that I have learned valuable life lessons such as how to manage my time effectively, and while doing presentations, how to convey my points effectively to a group of people. My time at University, particularly my participation in the theatre society, have taught me how to be a well-motivated and highly confident person, qualities I believe would be helpful in my teaching career.
Through my work mentoring students and my future work shadowing maths classes I believe that I have and will learn further the qualities that make a competent teacher. The year 10 and 11 students whom I have worked with have provided me with challenges and insight into what the learning environment of a secondary school is like. Although I have faced challenges during my time as a mentor, I believe that I have learned a lot about how to overcome issues, such as students who are unwilling to do their work. Last year while teaching students in an after-school session, I found it hard to motivate them after a long day but in order to overcome this I would allow them to choose what topic we would work on the week before, meaning that they could look forward to working on something which they had chosen. I have learned how to work with students who struggle with various issues, such as students who are easily distracted and students who are shy. Therefore, I believe that my work with these students has provided me with an excellent understanding of a typical learning environment, and therefore has helped to pave the way to inspire and begin my own career in education.
