I don't have a one size fits all teaching method. The important thing for any teacher to remember is that every student brings their own individual talents and needs to the table. These abilities should not be addressed as a generalization.
That being said, I do prefer a standard, somewhat Socratic based method. If a student has a question about an essay or book or math problem, I will ask them what they already know. Their previous knowledge helps to inform me and them of where we can go. Then I will help to guide the student through a thought process, writing revision, or math correction, and then ask them to do the same, but on their own. I will be with them to ensure that things are done correctly.
Every issue a student has is an opportunity to learn and to grow. The job of a teacher is to act as the Giving Tree, and to ask for nothing in return. This is how I treat the students I work with.
I am a writer and teacher. I have tutored and substitute taught at the elementary and high school level, and specialize with advanced writing. Basically I've taught and helped all grade levels, and even worked as a tutor at my college. If you total all the years of my experience, I have been helping students for 8 years. My B.A. is in English.
I write creatively and professionally, for businesses or competitions. My work has spanned short stories and short film screenplays, which have been shot, directed, and uploaded to YouTube. My business work usually involves writing a tech article for a magazine.
My rates will remain the same for the level of student. My cost of travel is set at $15 if I must travel 30 miles in one direction, which is less than the California reimbursement rate as of July 22, 2020.
