About Olivia

I graduated from State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry with a degree in Environmental Biology. Learning about, teaching about, and working with plants is a passion of mine. I can tutor in many science subjects, including biology, Earth science, and chemistry, and would be happy to incorporate experiential learning, if that is something you are interested in. I have always loved math, and fell in love with calculus while taking AP Calculus AB and BC in high school. I offer tutoring in these subjects as well as geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and more.

I can also do SAT and ACT tutoring, and college essay workshopping.

I have about 2 years experience tutoring various subjects, both with an established learning center and on my own. Beyond this, I have experience with education outside of the classroom, leading field trips for school groups, and ~10 years of general childcare experience, including homework help.

About the lesson

I have worked with students as young as first grade and up to early college. My teaching style includes asking lots of questions, guiding the student through their own thinking process rather than directly telling them what to do. My goal is for the student to gain a complete conceptual understanding of a topic, leading to a higher retention rate. Some ways I accomplish this are helping them discover patterns, recognize and learn from their own mistakes, explaining formulas and why they work, and having them explain their processes, backwards and forwards. I have worked with a diverse array of students and am highly adaptable to different needs. Thank you for your time and consideration!
