About Darryl

This Canadian has taught ESL online part-time for 5 months. I love and study the lessons that I am given, and I see the progressions in what English skills are taught. I teach students that range from taking their first lesson – and I teach all levels up to Level 7 – students almost fluent in English. I use different skills for each level, but I put FUN into each lesson too.

I LOVE KIDS AND TEENS!* I have over 25 years experience with them, as a youth pastor, coach, social worker, father, and teacher. My Masters degree is in Divinity, specializing in Youth Work. My Bachelor Degree is in Physical Education, specializing in Coaching. I have not officially taught in schools, so I'm now learning many things that Education students learned in their classes. However, my background is helpful, as I can personalize lessons, I can communicate with passion and I can make reading skills practical.

*I have also worked with and taught adults of all ages, from 18 to 103 years old (this number is not exaggerated).

My TESOL Diploma was earned in January 2021. Due to our COVID restrictions, what was normally a course taught in person was instead taken online. Therefore, I am very familiar with teaching online.

I have coached badminton, basketball, baseball and soccer (assoc. football). This included coaching all 3 of my own kids.

I am a huge music fan and trivia buff, and I also play the guitar in a band.

I use a new ASUS laptop, I have a top quality Sony headset, and my Wifi is good, having a download speed of 291 Mbps and an upload speed of 43 Mbps. I have a quiet and a well lit teaching space with a white background behind me. I am absolutely ready to teach online!

About the lesson

I love to meet people from all over the world. I admit I am a geography geek, and I love to learn more about their home countries.

I decided to teach the English language to anybody that would like to learn it. I love to help people, and I am very patient. I also am very good at correcting speech, since I have been a professional communicator for my whole adult life.

I worked as a Church Pastor for 23 years, working with people from newborn to 103 years old. I especially did a lot with children and teenagers. I have specialized in making lessons interesting and fun - while still focusing on the main teaching points.

I have a Bachelor of Physical Education degree, with a specialization in coaching. I also have a Master of Divinity degree.

I have coached badminton, basketball, T-ball (like baseball), and soccer (association football).

I am married and have three kids. I have been very involved in my kids' education, and have spent many hours helping them with their homework.

I play guitar as well. I am a BIG music fan, and a song is always in my head.
