My method of teaching is based on assimilation. I take students from actual experience to assimilation. For example, if my lesson is directed getting students supplies, I would show the student a notebook. They know the word in English. So, I introduced the word in Spanish “libreta.” I would pronounced the word many times and various situations during an hour. Until, the students would be able to pick up a “libreta”, without saying it in English. Just use the word in Spanish. However, there are other ways to teach Spanish. Like for example, using the the vowels. A, e, i, o, u. Then the consonant. M. Ma, me, mi, mo, mu. Try to put into sentence. Amo a mi mamá. Mi mamá me ama.
I am ESL teacher for public education. Taught first, second and third grades in urban and rural area in Puerto Rico. My lessons involved going to grocery shopping, going on a trip, the parts of the body, around the house, the family, etc.
