About Lumena

As an ESL tutor with 10 years of experience, I have worked with over 150 high school and college students, helping them strengthen their English skills for academic success and everyday communication. My teaching philosophy emphasises creativity, communication, and student-centred instruction. I believe that every student learns differently, so I create lessons tailored to their goals, interests, and learning styles. My classes are interactive, combining reading, writing, listening, and speaking exercises with discussions, role-plays, and real-life examples. I focus on helping students develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and the ability to express themselves clearly in English. Many students who were once hesitant speakers have gone on to excel in exams, presentations, and academic writing. I aim to create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students feel motivated and empowered to succeed.

About the lesson

I take a holistic and student-focused approach to teaching ESL, anchored in Accountability, Integrity, Flexibility, Communication, and Positivity. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my methods to suit individual needs while maintaining a clear focus on progress and outcomes. Accountability involves tracking growth, setting achievable goals, and guiding students to develop independent learning habits. Integrity shapes my interactions—lessons are transparent, honest, and aligned with each student’s best interests. Flexibility is key; I tailor content, exercises, and activities to match students’ abilities and interests, making learning engaging and practical. Communication is emphasised in every lesson, encouraging students to speak, write, and think critically in English. Positivity drives motivation—I celebrate small wins, nurture confidence, and help students overcome language anxiety. Beyond ESL, I include supporting subjects such as reading comprehension, essay writing, vocabulary enrichment, and practical language applications, equipping students with the skills they need for academic success and everyday communication.
