About Kiana

KIANANADONZA.COM | I am a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Oregon in the Department of Anthropology with a graduate specialization in Asian Studies and a graduate certificate in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. In 2015, I received my undergraduate degrees in anthropology and Women Gender & Sexuality with a concentration in Media Studies from the University of Virginia. I love teaching and mentoring students.. learning is truly my passion! Currently, I mentor several undergraduate students in order to help them develop their plans after college, as well as to teach them research methods. In terms of my accolades, I maintain over a 4.0 GPA in graduate school, and in 2020, I was the recipient of my university's Kimble First Year Teaching Award, which recognized my skills and commitment to equitable and engaged teaching. Prior to graduate school, I worked in college access. In my spare time, I like to roller skate, tend to my plants, embroider, pet dogs, and watch a lot of TV/film! Aside from English, I speak Advanced Intermediate Spanish and Novice High Tagalog.

About the lesson

I believe in an engaged approach that meets students where they are at. My lessons are dynamic, interactive, and personalized to fit the needs of each individual student. After establishing learning goals and course outcomes, I will work with the student to produce scheduled lesson plans that are a mixture of both lecture-based explanations as well as interactive to help ensure that the information is retained. I am equipped to tutor and teach in all levels of education up to undergraduate level with strengths in social science and humanities-related courses, including but not limited to English and Comparative Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, History, and Psychology. With a background as a college adviser for high school students and extensive experience in college admissions, I also offer services to assist in all stages of the college-going process, from choosing schools, to understanding the financial aid process, to helping with the application process itself; these consulting skills are also applicable to apply for the job market in a range of fields and graduate school.

Transportation fee is set at $3 for parking (per hour) for in-person sessions. My rates incorporate the costs of any brief review of your course materials in advance to familiarize myself with what we will work on together, but this does not include the costs of any specialized lesson planning outside of our tutoring session.
