About Robert

I graduated with a 1st in history and political science from Trinity College Dublin. At A Level I obtained 2 A*s and an A. I have experience in all areas of history, my primary historical focus is modern. At university I studied a broad range of topics and am particularly well prepared to teach on Soviet history and the Russian Revolution having studied several modules in this area, including one highly interesting one on the Communist Secret Police in my final year. I am particularly also knowledgeable about American politics and would be well placed to help A Level Government and Politics students with American and comparative topics.

My main goal is to help students to raise their grades and will use whatever method best suited to each person to do this.

About the lesson

I primarily teach GCSE and A Level students looking to improve their exam and essay technique, however I will take on tutees at all levels. My main goal is to raise individual grades of my tutees. Therefore, I primarily focus on improving exam and essay technique and helping students to the master the mark scheme, as this is the best way to achieve high grades. I will teach students how to structure answers and how to hit all the assessment objectives that examiners are looking for. To do this, I will go through past paper questions and set out the best way to answer each question. I will also set as much homework as each student desires and provide detailed feedback on every question with areas to improve.

Although my main focus is on essay technique, I am also happy to help students to tackle any content which they are struggling with, and will explain these topics is a clear and concise manner.

I will tailor my lessons to the specific needs of each student, but a skeleton of a lesson might look like this:

-Go through the homework, giving clear feedback and setting out areas for improvement
-Go over the material content, helping students to understand any areas they are struggling with. I will also test students on content through methods such as flashcards if they would find this helpful.
-Apply this content in exam and essay questions, discussing potential answers with students and using this to help them to master the content
-Finally, after discussing potential answers in discussions led by the student, I will use my own sample answers to explain the best way to answer each question and to demonstrate how to hit the examiner's criteria.

My basic rate is £13 per hour, however I am wiling to negotiate a price for longer term packages.
