About Mekjspa
I began my 39+ year career as a COBOL programmer creating and maintaining applications in numerous industries including Wholesale Floor Planning, Financial Automation, Inventory Accounting, Healthcare Administration and Automotive Leasing with five companies over a sixteen-year period. My unique experience with The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) (seven years) and with Fund Services at Vanguard (five years outsourcing via Capgemini Digital Services) has afforded me the opportunity to build and support innovative financial applications that processed transactions for New Fund Launch, Regulatory Reporting, Reconciliations, Trade Processing, Money Market Funds and Tax Reporting. In developing these systems, my duties have expanded to include Business Analyst and Project Management responsibilities. I have operated in all SDLC phases, from Requirements Analysis to Implementation. At PHLX, I was part of a team that established and maintained Trading Floor Corrections (KEYMASTER batch and CICS / DB2) Next Day (T+1) settlement processing to insure correct positions for the stock exchanges. At Vanguard, the business solutions I created processed ETF Funds and Money Market transactions using VBA / SQL logic and procedures within MS Access and Excel, as a component of their 7 trillion-dollar Assets Under Management portfolio. Application development is an art as much as it is a science. The importance of programming for efficiency and future ease of maintenance remains as a top-priority. I have learned and continue to follow the roadmap to successful development:

Students will learn all aspects of the EXCEL Interactive Development Environment (IDE) as they build spreadsheets from the ground up. This includes utilizing Keyboard Shortcuts, customizing the Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). Using the 3-Tiered approach of Concepts, Terminology and Technique, workbooks will be created such as Amortization, Schedule. Trade Discount, School Budget, Payroll and Sales Analysis. All of the major Excel skills will be taught which include Formulas, Functions, Formatting, Data Validation, Pivot Tables and Charts, Conditional Formatting, Auto Fill, Absolute and Relative Cell Reference, VLOOKUP, Transpose and much, much more! Some of the more advanced features that students will learn include working with Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). My 35-year experience as a Computer Programmer allows me to build sound development structure into my lesson plans. All of the spreadsheets were created by me to incorporate pertinent Excel skills.
