About Imogen
With 9 years of piano teaching experience and nearly 300 students trained, I have developed a structured and inspiring approach to music education. I teach high school students, college learners, and adults who wish to develop their technical ability, musical understanding, and performance confidence.
My teaching philosophy centres on clarity, consistency, and confidence-building. I break down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps so students feel encouraged rather than overwhelmed. I focus on strengthening technical skills such as finger control, hand coordination, rhythm accuracy, scales, and dynamic expression. At the same time, I guide students in understanding music theory, including harmony, chord structures, and musical form.
Each student receives personalised attention. I adapt lessons according to their learning speed, interests, and goals. Whether preparing for examinations, competitions, or personal growth, I create a roadmap that ensures steady improvement. I also train students in stage presence and performance preparation to help them overcome nervousness.
Throughout my career, many students have shown remarkable improvement within months. Several have earned high distinctions in music exams and performed successfully before audiences. My goal is to provide not only technical knowledge but also encouragement and mentorship that help students build lasting confidence.

My piano teaching methodology is centred on communication, creativity, flexibility, and consistent improvement. I believe piano learning should be clear, organised, and inspiring. I begin by teaching correct posture, finger placement, and rhythm control. I explain musical ideas in simple steps so students understand both the “how” and the “why.”
Communication helps me understand each student’s goals and challenges. I give regular feedback and practical practice strategies. Creativity is encouraged through improvisation, exploring different styles, and adding personal expression to pieces.
Flexibility allows me to adjust the lesson plan according to the student’s pace and ability. Along with piano performance, I teach music theory, sight reading, ear training, and basic harmony to build complete musicianship. My goal is to help students grow into confident and independent pianists.
