About Raymond
Hello! My name is Raymond Saldana, and I’m a fourth-year math major at The City College of New York. I’ve spent the last two years tutoring students in a range of college-level math subjects—including Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus I, II, and III—both during the school year and in summer programs like CCAP for incoming freshmen. My tutoring experience has mostly been with college students, but I have experience with freshmen right after high school. I focus on helping students build a real understanding of the material—not just getting through homework or exams, but really grasping the core ideas behind the problems. My journey with math began as a real struggle. In high school, it was the subject I found most difficult, and I often felt behind compared to other students. But instead of giving up, I decided to take it seriously and began studying on my own outside of class. I spent a lot of time working through problems, learning from mistakes, and gradually building a stronger understanding. Over time, what started as frustration turned into interest, and that interest grew into a genuine passion. That process of learning through persistence not only helped me master the subject, but also shaped the way I think and approach challenges in general—leading me to become a math major and dedicate myself to the subject fully.

When I tutor, I always begin by asking the student what their goals are—whether they’re preparing for an upcoming exam, struggling with a specific topic, or just looking to build overall confidence in math. Understanding what a student wants to achieve helps me tailor each session to their needs and learning style. From there, I take a step-by-step approach, walking through problems carefully and focusing not just on how to solve them, but on why each method works. I emphasize the reasoning behind each step so that students aren’t just memorizing formulas, but developing a deeper understanding of the concepts. I believe that consistent practice is key to mastering math, so I make sure we work through multiple examples, adjusting the difficulty gradually to reinforce the idea. I’m patient and detail-oriented, and I make it a priority to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. My goal is always to help students gain real confidence—not just in getting the right answer, but in knowing why it’s right.
