About Hadassah
I consider my ability to tutor a gift. I have a doctorate in education, yet I am down to earth and can present intimidating math concepts in way that can be understood.
My expectations from the beginning will include the dates and times of sessions, expected goals and payment instructions, only if necessary.
I will come prepared with lessons and organized materials to help enhance the learning experience.
My conduct will always be professional. I will be attentive during lessons, respectful of diverse learning styles, while creating a very positive learning environment.

My teaching method will explain what sets me apart. I apply the AVID problem-solving method to teaching algebra and GED subjects. This method fosters a collaborative and supportive learning environment for the student so they can actively engage with algebraic concepts, identify the points of confusion, and develop effective strategies to overcome them through critical thinking and inquiry.

Lesson Plan: GED Math Problem-Solving
Objective: By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to effectively solve math problems using appropriate strategies and demonstrate their problem-solving skills.
Materials Needed:
Whiteboard
Pen
Notebook
Math textbooks or handouts with problem-solving examples
Worksheets or practice problems
Lesson Outline:
Introduction (5 minutes):
Greet the student and tell a true story of how I overcame my fear of math.
Discuss the importance of problem-solving skills in mathematics and everyday life.
Conduct a Review or pre test(10 minutes):
Present relevant prerequisite skills and concepts.
Discuss any relevant mathematical operations or strategies (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages).
Direct Instruction (15 minutes):
Allow the student to discuss their fears and present a math problem that they continue to struggle with .
Ask them to work it out on their own first and stop at the point the become "confused."
Then, demonstrate step-by-step how to analyze the problem, formulate a plan, and execute it.
Guided Practice (20 minutes):
Provide student with guided practice problems related to the strategy introduced.
Work through examples together, encouraging questions
Emphasize the importance of showing work and explaining reasoning in problem-solving.
Allow for Independent Practice (10 minutes):
Distribute worksheet or individual practice problem(s) that reinforces the problem-solving strategy.
Closure (5 minutes):
Review the problem-solving strategy and key steps involved (Identify, Plan, Execute, Evaluate).
Summarize the main concepts and skills covered during the lesson.
