About Saba

I'm a 25 year old Masters graduate living in Paris. Raised in Kenya, my family is French and Ethiopian, which explains my interest for languages and cultures. I already speak perfect French and English, but I'm also proficient in Spanish and learning Amharic and Kiswahili.

I've always had a penchant for literature and the study of the French language, which even French people often struggle with.

After graduating from High School in 2015, I got a degree in Bharatnatyam (a traditional Indian dance) and started Environmental Studies. But my interest for French took the upper hand and I was accepted in what the French call "preparatory classes", the most demanding 2-year French course in France.
After that, I got a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and was accepted at ESIT (École Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs) to follow a Translation course for 2 years.

Now that I'm done with the degree, I'm a happy freelancer offering linguistic services, based in Paris. I also teach French and English part time. I started this activity over 7 years ago and truly enjoy it. I take it very seriously and make it my personal goal to see my students improve, no matter the age and goal.

About the lesson

I have several teaching approaches, that I adjust according to the student's level and goals. For all classes, I systematically include the following :

- A first session to discuss, set goals and evaluate the student's current level.
- A personalized plan according to the student's goals. If the goal is to work on spoken French, I will tailor the classes accordingly and include more speaking-oriented exercises.
- Theme-based vocabulary sheets to learn by heart
- Evaluation can be formal (if the student is preparing for a specific test, for example) or informal (simple questions or conversation).
- Homework : I usually have enough content for the student to work extra time, outside our classes. I highly recommended doing it in order to progress quickly.

What I expect from students :

- regular attendance and punctuality : classes are set in advance and times should be respected as much as possible.
- accountability : the student is expected to complete work he or she has agreed to do.
- transparency : the student is expected to be proactive and communicate clearly what he/she doesn't understand and wants to learn. Let's optimize this time !

What sets me apart as a tutor ?

I'm flexible. My main principle is to be laid back and efficient at the same time. I work WITH my students, always keeping the objectives in mind to push them towards that direction.
