About Maria

I am a 5th-year medical student at University College London (UCL). In 2022, I gained a first-class honours degree in Immunology, Infection and Cell Pathology at UCL. I was additionally awarded the David Katz Project Presentation Prize for my Neuroscience research project at the Francis Crick Institute. I have attended seven schools in four countries (Munich, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Tokyo, St Andrews), which gave me a wealth of experience with different educational systems. Prior to starting university, I worked for two years as a laboratory intern in one of the world-leading virology laboratories at the University of St Andrews, focusing on novel vaccines and antiviral treatments. I am bilingual (English and Russian), and also fluent in Japanese. I am a qualified Japanese-English translator and have worked as an online translator for many years. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and had been a first-team captain of both the UCL medical women's team and the London inter-university teams.

About the lesson

I am truly passionate about teaching and have experience tutoring students of all ages and abilities. Being bilingual (English, Russian) as well as fluent in Japanese, I bring a unique set of skills to the table. Growing up in Tokyo and attending both local and international schools has given me a deep understanding of different educational systems and cultural perspectives. In pursuit of my education, I moved to the UK for my final years of school and excelled in my studies, achieving an A* in GCSE/AS/A-level Japanese and Scottish Highers for Russian. Furthermore, my qualifications as a Japanese-English translator have allowed me to work effectively as an online translator for many years.
