About Adam
I am an experienced python programmer with 3 years in the data visualization field working on backend APIs to service thousands of users daily. And my academic background is in Mathematics. I started out with a joint honours Physics and Math program, realized that Physics was not for me, then switched over into pure math.

My principal value with regard to teaching is best expressed by asking the question "Why?". "Why are you interested in learning this subject?" I often check in with the student(s) with questions like these to gauge how they feel about what they are learning and what they want to learn.
Practicing this engagement with a student adds a layer of deeper psychology into the learning atmosphere, but I believe that it is absolutely necessary. If you don't know why you are in a classroom and do not have a certain aim, then learning is an unanchored process of trying to cram things into your head ad infinitum.
***
In the practical sphere, I utilize a lot of real world examples and analogies for students to relate to, as well as building small models out of props in the classroom, such as the desks in a room or a group of pencils on a table.
I make sure to encourage participation by routinely asking a student (if in a classroom setting) who is not raising their hand to take a stab at a question, and I often use socratic questioning to help lead a student to the right answer - this involves asking the student "why" questions and letting them answer their own questions by thinking out loud or on paper.
