About John
I’m an experienced technology and digital leader who has spent my career working with software, technology and complex technical problems. I’ve been programming since 1980 and still enjoy building things and getting to the bottom of problems.
I particularly enjoy helping people understand how technology works and showing them how to approach problems logically rather than simply giving them the answer.
I’m now looking to pass on some of that experience through practical, one-to-one sessions. I’m friendly, patient and happy to adapt the session to what you are actually trying to achieve.
Whether you are learning to programme, working on a project, struggling with some code, experimenting with Arduino, or trying to understand how to make better use of AI, I’m happy to help.
I’m particularly interested in practical projects and problem-solving, rather than teaching purely for examinations.

I've been programming since 1980 and have spent decades developing software and solving real-world technical problems.
My main programming experience is with C#, .NET and Microsoft Visual Studio. I also have extensive hands-on experience with Arduino projects and practical experience using AI as a programming and problem-solving tool.
I can help with C# and .NET programming, Visual Studio, debugging and understanding existing code, programming fundamentals, Arduino projects, and using AI effectively when developing software.
My approach is practical and problem-based. If you have a project you want to build, code that isn't working, or simply want to understand how something works, we can use that as the starting point.
I particularly enjoy helping people get beyond simply getting code to run — understanding why it works, finding mistakes, and developing the confidence to solve problems themselves.
I'm happy working with beginners, experienced hobbyists, university students and adults developing practical technical skills. One-off sessions and short engagements are very welcome.
Sessions will be available from mid-October.
