About Maria

I've been a language learner my whole life. I grew up speaking Cypriot Greek in the home, English everywhere else and have studied Modern Greek, Italian, Spanish and Japanese to various levels. I know that for many language learners, there's a lot of self-doubt - I've experienced it too. You might feel that your English is never good enough and as a result, you don't speak up when you have the opportunity - whether that's during meetings, seminars or everyday conversations. I want to help you get over these mental blocks and communicate with the language you have - and in the process, become more confident with using your skills. We need your voice! I'm really fascinated by the language learning process and I enjoy reading research on how adults learn. My many years of experience as both language learner and teacher also, of course, help me to help my students reach their goals. Language learning never stops, but that doesn't mean you need to study formally forever. Build up your confidence, build up some habits, be curious and you will thrive!

About the lesson

I teach English using the topics that are relevant to you! Through conversation, I help you clarify what you want and need to say and provide you with written feedback after each lesson. You can also choose to study English through reading short stories or graded readers. You read before our session and we discuss our reactions, ideas and thoughts to the text. I'll encourage you to read and listen outside of our lesson(s) and help you find interesting materials. I have over ten years of teaching experience, a Masters in Applied Linguistics, a Bachelor's degree in Italian (with a minor in Spanish - which is now very rusty!), and a CELTA qualification (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). I teach adults who want to feel more confident and capable using their English language skills!
