About Skye

I am a passionate violin tutor with 8 years of experience teaching high school and college students. I have successfully guided around 300 students, helping them build strong technical skills and musical confidence. My teaching philosophy is rooted in real-life examples, collaboration, and empathy, ensuring each student learns in a way that suits their pace and style. I focus on proper technique, intonation, and expression, while encouraging teamwork through ensemble style practice. My goal is to create a supportive space where students grow into skilled, confident violinists who truly enjoy playing music.

About the lesson

My teaching approach for Violin, Music Theory, and Ear Training focuses on helping students build strong technical skills while developing a genuine connection with the instrument. I believe that learning violin is a journey that requires both discipline and emotional expression, and my methodology reflects that balance.

I use real-life examples and case studies from accomplished violinists and real performance experiences to help students understand how technique translates into actual playing. This makes learning more relatable and shows students how the skills they practice apply in real musical situations, whether in an orchestra, ensemble, or solo performance.

Collaboration is an important part of my teaching style. I often involve group exercises or ensemble style practice where possible, helping students learn to listen to others, stay in tune together, and understand their role within a larger musical piece. This builds not just technical ability but also musical awareness.

Empathy guides how I interact with every student. I understand that each person learns differently and may face unique challenges, whether it is bowing control, finger placement, or reading music. I take time to understand their struggles and adjust my teaching methods to suit their comfort level and pace, without judgment.

My lessons generally begin with proper posture, bow hold, and basic finger positioning, followed by scales and simple melodies to build muscle memory. I introduce music theory early so students understand rhythm, note values, and key signatures alongside their playing.

As students advance, I focus on intonation, tone quality, and more complex bowing techniques, along with ear training to help them develop pitch accuracy and musical sensitivity. For those interested in performance, I also work on stage presence, expression, and interpretation of pieces.

I customize my approach based on each student's goals, whether they wish to play violin as a hobby, prepare for exams, or pursue it at an advanced level. My overall aim is to create a patient, collaborative, and encouraging environment where students feel confident to grow as musicians.
