About Maggie
I graduated from Reed College in Oregon in Dec 2018 with a B. A. in Economics and Environmental Studies. I've worked as a tutor for more than 6 years and always enjoy spending time with kids and helping them learn! I was on Math Team in high school and math is my specialty: I've tutored middle school math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, high school trigonometry, IB Calculus and Calc 1. I am also qualified to tutor English, Social Studies and test prep, and I've done a brief stint in group astronomy lessons. I work with all ages from elementary school to high school. Most recently I was working with two high school girls and a 7th grade boy in math. I have experience with flipped classrooms as well as more traditional teaching styles. I like to get to know my students on a personal level as well as working on homework--a tutor provides someone to talk to outside of teachers, friends or family. I'm always excited to tutor and I bring energy and enthusiasm to each tutoring session!

I start from the class materials provided by the primary teacher and work from there with supplemental exercises as necessary. My primary focus uses homework and study tools to teach material that feels challenging and put it in a simpler light. I take a creative approach to problem solving that is tailored to the individual child, building up their confidence based on their strengths so we can tackle areas that need work. No child is bad at math; it's just a problem of finding the approach that works intuitively for the way they think. If you need me to bring in exercises or math books I can do so but I do not have these on hand.
