About Evan

As a future educator and current senior at Norristown High, I approach tutoring with the same dedication I plan to bring to my own classroom. I am currently preparing to enter the Secondary Education program at Kutztown University, specializing in History. My goal is to build a supportive environment where students feel confident tackling challenging subjects.

With five years of experience as a summer camp counselor, I have developed the patience and adaptability needed to connect with all types of learners. In my school life, I am a part of the National Honor Society, and have been since my sophomore year (the first year allowed). I also happen to run the lights and sound at my school for every single event in which those are needed (Drama Plays, Winter/Spring Concerts, Mr Norristown, ect). In the community, I volunteer with a series of organizations (Aceing Autism & Unified Bocce) that help bring students on the spectrum to find a love for sports. I also run the social media pages for 2 clubs at our school in which I am heavily involved in (Best Buddies & Blue and White). I am also a 4 year DECA competitor, and have made it to Nationals once, and States the rest. The AP classes that I have taken are: AP Literature and Composition, AP US Government & Politics, AP Human Geography, AP Environmental Science,  and AP African American History. With a weighted GPA of 4.1, and an unweighted of 3.8, I am sure I can help your children in some possible way, whether it be English, Environmental Science, or how to write a film script, ect. My academic life is fueled by a deep love for culture and storytelling. Whether I’m writing music and sports reviews, studying classic cinema, or exploring the complex histories behind bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead, I am constantly engaging with the world through a historical and critical lens.

I bring the same energy to tutoring that I bring to hiking the tallest peaks of New England and Colorado or attending my 16th Phish show. You can expect a tutor who is punctual, organized, and professional, but also someone who can relate to students through shared interests—whether it’s the Talking Heads, the latest Hanif Abdurraqib book, or a debate over the best local cheesesteak. I strive to show my students that history and journalism aren't just in textbooks; they are part of the music, film, and culture we love today.

As a senior headed to Kutztown University to major in Secondary Education - History, I am passionate about my future career as a high school teacher. I bring five years of experience as a summer camp counselor to every session, combining a future educator's expertise with a mentor's energy.

Teaching Method: I use narrative-driven learning. I treat history and journalism as a series of connected stories rather than a list of facts. I focus on critical thinking, helping students analyze "the why" behind events to build long-term retention.

Typical Lesson Plan:

1.) The Hook (5 mins): A provocative question or "history mystery" to grab interest.

2.) Guided Inquiry (30 mins): We walk through the core material together using primary sources or media clips.

3.) Skill-Building (20 mins): Practicing specific skills like essay outlining, source verification, or journalistic writing.

4.) The Recap (5 mins): Student-led summary to ensure comprehension.

What Sets Me Apart: Unlike a typical tutor, I am already training for my professional career in the classroom. My camp counselor background means I have the patience and unique ability to keep students focused and excited about learning.

Target Audience: I specialize in helping middle and high school students (Grades 6–12) who want to excel in Social Studies, English, or Media studies.
