About Sophie

I am a certified ESL teacher from the UK with over 5 years experience teaching English, Math and Science to students from different nationalities, online and one on one as a private tutor. Able to aid in development of conversational English, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, sentence structure, aswell as writing, reading and listening skills. Each class or program is adapted to the level and needs of each student. I am a UK ESL certified teacher with over 5 years of experience teaching English, math and science to students of different nationalities both online and in person. About the lesson

I like to create a comfortable and relaxed classroom environment that encourages my students to speak as much as possible. The class will depend on the goals and desires of the student, but the general way i stucture my classes is to provide guided conversation based on a different topic each class, during the class any issues regarding grammar, word choice, pronunciation, sentence strucure will be addressed, fully explained and practiced. If there are any serious issues then a class will be created around this so the student can gain full understanding. The aim of my classes is to help students become comfortable and confident in their language skill. I like to create a comfortable and relaxed class environment that encourages my students to talk as much as possible. The class will depend on the objectives and desires of the student, but in general my classes are structured in a way of guided discussion based on a different topic in each class, during the class any problem related to grammar, word choice, pronunciation and sentence structure, each being fully explained and practiced. If there are any serious problems, a class will be created around this so that the student can gain a full understanding. The goal of my classes is to help students feel comfortable and confident in their language skills.

Acorde a mi nivel intermedio, el ritmo de las clases se ha ajustado con el tiempo, Sophie se encarga de corregir cada falta gramatical o de pronunciación que tenga y la registra para que sean menos recurrentes durante nuestras conversaciones y ejercicios, que suelen basarse en temas que abarcan desde la cotidianidad de la vida en el trabajo a otros más complejos que abren espacios de discusión interesantes y que procuran el uso de un vocabulario avanzado y la aplicación de otras formulas gramaticales. Esta experiencia en particular me ha puesto fuera de mi zona de confort lo que ha aumentado mi confianza en el uso del lenguaje y desarrollado mis habilidades de comunicación verbal y escrita. Sophie es una tutora profesional, es puntual y prepara las clases con antelación. To "throw caution to the wind" significa dejar de ser cuidadoso y hacer algo que es peligroso o que puede resultar en un fracaso.

Me gusta mucho esta expresión ya que resume la actitud que he tomado en muchos momentos de mi vida. Para no pensar demasiado y ver a dónde me lleva la vida. Me encanta experimentar la vida, y para experimentarla plenamente, la gente debe arriesgarse.
¿Por qué sería importante hablar esta lengua, ya sea en un plano escolar, profesional o personal?
Hablar un segundo idioma es una forma de extensión de uno mismo al mundo. Hablar otra idioma permite conocer y conectarse con más personas de diferentes países.

El inglés es uno de los idiomas más útiles para aprender, ya que es el idioma universal, lo que significa que se habla ampliamente en todo el mundo. Ser capaz de hablar inglés hace que viajar y navegar por otros países sea más fácil.

Además, hablar inglés abre más oportunidades laborales tanto en México como en otros países, ya que es una habilidad que a menudo buscan los empleadores internacionales.
¿Qué es lo más difícil de aprender esta lengua?
La pronunciación puede ser difícil en inglés, ya que muchas palabras no se pronuncian como se escriben. Hay algunas reglas que se pueden enseñar para comprender los sonidos de ciertas letras y combinaciones de letras. Con la práctica y el tiempo, esta comprensión se volverá natural.
¿Alguna anécdota que nos quieras contar sobre tu aprendizaje de la misma?
Me alegró mucho escuchar un día de uno de mis alumnos que había estado tratando de aprender inglés durante muchos años y que había probado muchas formas diferentes de aprendizaje: clases privadas, grupales, en línea, en persona, autoaprendizaje.... y durante muchos años no pudo encontrar un formato que se adaptara a él y luchó por aprender. En este punto llevábamos un año de clases juntos y había mejorado tanto que podíamos tener conversaciones profundas y complejas sobre la vida. Me dijo que tener clases conmigo era la primera vez en su vida que había podido aprender inglés con éxito y disfrutar el proceso. Este es uno de los momentos más felices de mi carrera, ya que demostró mi éxito como docente y el efecto que mi profesión puede tener en los demás.

Me di cuenta hace mucho tiempo que para ser un buen docente se requieren tres elementos: Conocimiento de la materia, habilidades didácticas y atención genuina por el alumno.

Alguien puede tener conocimientos, pero sin la capacidad de transmitir efectivamente ese conocimiento, un estudiante no aprenderá.

Con el conocimiento y la capacidad de enseñar, un estudiante puede aprender, pero sin un cuidado genuino por el progreso y el tiempo de los estudiantes, aprenderán lentamente.

Un buen maestro necesita los tres y esto es lo que ofrezco a todos y cada uno de los estudiantes. Enseñar de la forma más eficiente y eficaz adecuada a cada persona para que avance rápidamente.
