About Gemma
As a Chemistry graduate from the University of Minnesota and a current PhD student at Oregon State University, I bring a strong academic foundation and real-world teaching experience to every session. I am currently a teaching assistant for General Chemistry, where I teach both lecture and lab sections to a diverse group of 48 students. This experience has equipped me with the skills to break down complex topics into clear, manageable steps that anyone can understand. I’m here to help students feel confident in their abilities by creating a patient and encouraging learning environment where questions are always welcome.
In my tutoring sessions, I focus on making Chemistry less intimidating. Together, we’ll build a solid understanding of fundamental concepts through relatable examples and step-by-step practice. I’ve guided many students to success in General Chemistry, and I’m committed to helping each student find their own path to understanding. My goal is for every student to leave each session feeling more confident and capable, knowing that they have the tools to tackle even the toughest Chemistry problems.
Whether you’re a college student in General Chemistry, a high school student preparing for advanced studies, or someone gearing up for exams, I am here to support your academic journey with professionalism, patience, and dedication.

As a Chemistry tutor and teaching assistant, I focus on helping students truly understand the material and feel confident. I like to make Chemistry less intimidating by using visuals, real-life examples, and simple comparisons to explain complex ideas. When working through problems, I break down each step and encourage students to ask questions, which helps them understand the "why" behind each answer.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of what we’ve covered so far to clear up any questions. Then, I introduce new topics, making sure to connect them to things they already know. Together, we go through practice problems, starting with easier ones and gradually tackling more challenging ones as they build confidence. I encourage students to try problems on their own toward the end, while I provide guidance as needed. Finally, we wrap up with a quick summary and any final questions.
What makes me different as a tutor is my strong Chemistry background and current experience teaching General Chemistry as a PhD student. I understand what topics are tricky and know how to make them simpler. My sessions are supportive and patient, making them ideal for college students in General Chemistry, high school students wanting extra help, and anyone preparing for tests involving Chemistry.
