About Andrew

Hi, I'm Andrew!

I've been playing drums since I was 11, so I've spent over 20 years behind a drum kit. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I've been lucky enough to play in bands, professional studios, live venues and festivals, as well as working as a session and dep drummer.

I studied Music & Music Technology at university, which gave me a strong understanding of both playing and the technical side of music, including recording and production.

I'm a big believer that music is a social activity. Learning an instrument should be fun and should help you make the music you actually want to make. Whether you've always wanted to play drums, you're getting back into it after years away, or you're looking to take your playing to the next level, I'll make sure lessons are relaxed, practical and tailored to you.

Outside of teaching, I'm still actively making and recording my own music, so I'm constantly learning, experimenting and playing.

I'm friendly, patient and happy to work with complete beginners through to more experienced players. Most importantly, there's no need to be nervous about your first lesson, everyone has to start somewhere!

About the lesson

I’m a drummer, musician, and Music & Music Technology university graduate with over 20 years of experience playing drums.

My approach is simple: Drums aren't a solo instrument ... I want you playing music as quickly as possible. Rather than spending your first few lessons doing endless exercises, we’ll learn practical skills that you can actually use to play along to songs you enjoy.

For beginners, we can start from the absolute basics and get you playing your first drum beat in your very first lesson. From there, we can work towards playing complete songs, improving your timing and groove, learning fills, developing technique and becoming more confident playing with other musicians.

For intermediate players, lessons can be tailored around whatever you want to improve, whether that's technique, groove, fills, playing specific songs, improvisation, recording yourself or preparing for playing with a band.

I’m happy to work with adults and younger players, and lessons can be adapted to suit your experience, goals and musical interests. I can teach in person or online, whichever works best for your needs.

Lessons are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on your preference.

I have played in bands, professional studios, live venues and festivals, as well as working as a session and dep drummer. I’ve also previously taught drums and have a degree in Music & Music Technology.

Most importantly, I want lessons to be relaxed, practical and enjoyable. Whether you've never touched a drum kit before or you've been playing for years and feel you've hit a plateau, we'll focus on helping you become the drummer you want to be.
