About Julia
Hello! My name is Ms. Julia. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Developmental Psychology and Special Education from the University of British Columbia. I have been working as an educational assistant for different school districts in the Lower Mainland and Alberta since 2018. In this position, I work one-on-one with students with special needs and provide general academic and behaviour support for other students in the classroom. I am also working on my teaching degree! My lessons are about 30 minutes long and follow a set structure. We begin with a one-minute word game warm-up, followed by instruction of new letter/blend sounds. I use the engaging Jolly Phonics program which follows a set of characters on their journey of learning all the sounds. We then work on building reading/writing skills with the focus sound, specifically blending, segmenting, and dictation. We end the session by reading a book using only sounds we have learned (yes even at the beginning stages this is possible!) leading to reading confidence. I follow up each session with an email containing optional work that you can print at home to continue practicing the skills we learned that day.
